The chairs are nearly all done
Next step is to apply a finish, this serves various purposes- protection, appeal (any others?)
What finish to apply?
How?
Mmmmmmm?
We shall see!!

Most people are working hard to cut out their chair pieces from MDF. this project should only last a few more weeks so we can do another quick project before starting the GCSEs!!!!
Make sure you all have your blogs up and running regularly and use them! Let me know of any changes to the blog address etc.

Cardboard chairs
Was your cardboard model a success??
Will it support its own weight??
Will it support a child??
Next step design it using 2D design and use the cnc router to cut out the bits in plastic - this should give a more realistic idea of whether it will work or not.
Don't forget to make it appeal to a child
Use of material - ENVIRONMENT!!!
EFECTIVE USE OF TIME :)

IT'S A NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Welcome to the new Year 10 blog for the Resistant materials group.
This should be ongoing over the next 6 months and will be very exciting!!
You will find last years work archived if you can work out where to look and the current Y11 stuff is also around somewhere.
Happy hunting.

flat pack chairs - assessment part 1

Chris' chair (above) was a grade B/C, the finish was OK for a prototype but could have been improved and the design needed more development to enable it to be more effective ( it didn't lock together very well). The actual shape was interesting and showed imagination.
Claudia's chair was rather difficult to grade as she took it home to finish and I haven't seen it since!!!

Kris' chair (above) had a good world cup theme, and the shape was pleasing although it relied purely upon a tight fit for it to work - not very practical or safe in reality. A good prototype but in need of furhter development - grade B/C

Elliot designed a chair (above) that looked good and used the Boxford CNC router to produce the detail. The assembly of the various components was not as effective as might have been hoped but with further development the design could be improved. Grade B
Jake's design (below) was novel and effective, it held itself together without the need for friction and additional pieces. The surface finish wasn't complete but overall a good project - grade B

Update on the chairs
We dont appear to be making much progress at the moment due to revision and exams, but these will soon be over and then we can concentrate on getting the chairs finished. There isn't a huge amount of time left as final GCSE projects need to be started after spring bank holiday!!
